Apart from [V]...

Which company would you most like to see tackle a space sim? My personal opinion is that one of the big FPS developers would have a hard time doing it real justice, but someonelike Looking Glass (If they were still around) might be able to be innovative enough to breathe life back into the Genre... what do you guys think?

Looking Glass
Looking glass is dead but mempers in LG created company that is making BioShock name sounds familiar eh? I would give change to Bungie if they would tried making space sim maybe Maddox games too (IL2 makers)

Anyone who isn't Derek Smart or asscoiated with 'value' gaming, to be honest.
Possibly Argonaut (the part of them which used to be Particle Systems), Totally Games (Bridge Commander, X-Wing, actually were linked with the FS license when Derek smart was), or even Games (IL-2.... would be an interesting prospect).

There is a game coming that will most likely put the genre back on life support, Space Interceptor. There is a demo out and it looks great, plays pretty good too but the backstory and overall impression I get of that part of it is some kind of Freelancerish ripoff, with the player working for one of the more honorable megacorps in the mid 23rd century.

That's the general trend of action games these days - looks good, sounds good, lots of explosions, half arsed (or no, ala BF1942, Unreal Tourney etc.) story.

I don't know if Infogrames is still around, but it would have been interesting to see their take on the idea

They are - they just changed their name to Atari. (They aren't the original Atari... they just bought all their stuff.)
