TOO f#####g HOT!!!

It was like, high 90's (f) for a good pertion of the day yesterday. That would have been fine, as i was inside doing stuff. Well at 1845, a telephone report of a lot of smoke in the garage of our recently vacated quary. So i'm like, "Fine, time to go to work."

I get there a minute or two after the first truck arrives. Take my gear out of the back of the truck, and think 'hey, its gonna get cooler when the sun goes down'...

Wrong.

Three hours later, I've been running lines back and forth, changing out air packs, running from one truck to another... The whole time, i had to be in omplete turnout gear; there was still something burning, so it was manditory. I swear, 10 more minutes and i'd have gone into heat stroke...

We finished up, went back to the station, and hung hose. a little after that, i head home and took a shower... I come out, and i can still smell smoke in my skin, so i take another. Come out, and i can STILL smell it. So i take a third. Yeah good enough...

Today; wake up; whats the first thing i smell? Smoke. Apparently the heat from outside and the heat from the PCV suit baked the scent into my skin and hair...

So therefore: Heat=BAD ...

Not when its scarcely been above 70 all summer, in an area where its rarely above 80 at any time... Plus, you figure in the working fire, and the turnout gear, and the scott pack, all totaling about 70 pounds... plus dragging a 2.5 inch hand line, charged, into a building...

Yeah, he's got a point. I think my personal favorite is heavy, dark blue wool in 95-degree weather for marching band one time.

Damn, that was hot. Thankfully, we only got to do that *once*.
