Meh. Outside of Mr. Bean, HGTTG, and (to a certain extent) Monty Python, I've found most British humor within the past 50 years to be rather bewildering. :p
To elaborate a bit on the show.

Father Ted Creilly is a Catholic priest expelled to the hellhole of Craggy Island for completely unjustified reasons (the money was only resting in his account!). Father Dougal MacGuire (McGuire?) is an idiot terrified of nuns. Father Jack (not seen) is a rampant alcoholic who can only speak (shout) 4 works - Drink, feck, arse, and girls. All 3 reside in the Craggy Island parochial house with Mrs Doyle, their tea obsessed housekeeper.
