I've been having problems getting my personas to display in my modification. To make sense of the steps I took, here they are:

1. Create all the frames with the picture
2. Turn to greyscale
3. Converted to 8-bit/256 colour .pcx
4. Numbered them in order and created .ani in anibuild.

When I use a message with one, the picture is there, but it won't display properly. Here's an example.

So, what have I done wrong and how can I fix it?

Head ANIs require a special colour palette. Which program do you use for images?

Well, for shaping up the images, I used paint.net. But for converting to .pcx, I use Irfanview.

Edit: I check anibuild and it says it needs 256 colour palette, which I have been using. It is rather vexing.

It needs a specific colour palette. Not just 256 colours, but the 256 colours FS will display. The others will appear transparent, like you noticed.

Try the GIMP for your images. It's a very decent program, almost as good as Photoshop. In addition, I can give you the palette for it; attached below. Extract it to C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\.gimp-2.6\palettes and convert the frames to it.

Ah, Gimp. I have had small experience with it before. Now I have more reason to use it. This will be a great help. Thanks FSF.

Gah, for a moment there, I couldn't find the palette menu. Luckily, I made a hotkey to it. This will be very handy.

The last essential components are coming together. All that really needs doing is a brand-new menu. Because of all the tweaking and new stuff coming in, my menu makes it look old! But aside from that, and the missions and other things, its really shaped up. Anything else I'll need to do is the command briefings and any small additions of any sort along the way.

I don't know how far I'd still have to go were it not for you guys on the sectorgame forums so I'm already gonna throw a big thanks this far. I"m now starting the new thread dedicated to this, which I can now really say is a modificaiton.

I will start taking questions about the mod on the new thread when it is up.
