lol, as it happens, 'Grimlock' was a dino-bot like Pred from beast wars, the Transmetals2 series. I, however, am 'Grimloq', which doesnt actually relate to the series, but it rather means that im so cynical that im 'LOCKED' (-loq) into being 'GRIM' GRIM + LOCKED (plus lots of users who are called 'grimloq' or 'grimloc') = grimloq.

Hmmm..... very true Grimloq, that name is from Beast Wars.... however, only a toy, not an actual character.... there was Dinobot, who was a raptor, a Predacon warrior who became a Maximal at the beginning of the series. The toys of Dinobot and Grimlock are almost exactly the same, though-- Grimlock was a repaint/reissue of Dinobot's toy.

There IS Grimlock, the Dinobot, from the Generation One series. He was the leader of a group of 5 Dinobots... he was the T-Rex guy, and often spoke like "Me GrImLoCk DiNoBoT!" I have heard that the reason why the Dinobots were named "Dinobots" was because Optimus Prime looked back in the history datatracks and found the story of Dinobot from the Beast Wars, and decided to name them after him in his honor. .... How exactly that went, I'm not sure, since the Beast Wars happened after G1, BUT the Beast Wars happened in the past, so I think that the datatracks Prime found must have been in the Ark, which the Maximals used as a base in the third season of Beast Wars.

uuhhmm... no....*answers slowly* my origional name was going to be 'grimloc', but then it was taken on Sierra Online, so i switched to 'Grimloq' and kept it that way. 'Grimloq' on any online place is usually me. why do you ask?

Transformers are cool and all but i never really got into them... My big think as a (little) kid was 'Sonic the Hedgehog'. My uncle had all the games for the old saturn systems and i was at his house like every day playing them untill my mom finnaly came over and got me (we only lived a few blocks away)

Yeah I was refering to Grimloq. Even if the name is slightly different it was still a give away.

Beast Wars may have changed the story a little but the comics were always considered the most canon source of info so the story behind the dinobots goes something like this.

After the ark crashed on Earth the Decepticon Shockwave left Cybertron to investigate what had happened to Megatron and the rest of the Decepticon forces. He landed in The Savage Land (a part of antartica where dinosaurs never became extinct). The Ark detected his landing and used the last of it's remaining power to alter 5 Autobots to stop him.
Shockwave and the Dinobots battled with the result being that Shockwave was buried under tons of rocks and the Dinobots were pulled down into a tar pit.

As for Dinobot and Grimlock looking similar, I never saw the resemblance in the cartoon (Grimlock was a T-Rex while Dinobot is a raptor)

EDIT : A little further research shows that at one point Hasbro repainted the Dinobot toy and re-released it as Grimlock. That explains it

the latter is what i was referring to. i think they tried to imply that someone reincarnated Grimlock as a TM2.

Yeah. I guessed as much. It's quite worrying the number of versions there have been of each toy.

Ah ha... I knew what I was talking about after all lol

btw thanks for the lil background on the Dinobots.... my knowledge of the G1 series is sketchy at best since I've hardly seen/read any of it. My specialty/obsession is Beast Wars since I grew up with it.

Was not a reincarnation of Grimlock, he was a clone of Dinobot, who died in the second season of Beast Wars. Megatron, the bad-guy leader (and CUTIE!!! ) cloned him and created a new robot with Transmetal 2 technology, and used a spark (robot soul/essence) he happened to have from Rampage (who has a very unique history of his own, but I won't get into that) to bring the clone to life. His name was Dinobot too. However, the first Dinobot DID pull a reincarnation trick, but I won't tell you guys about that, cuz that would ruin the last few eps of Beast Wars if you haven't seen them.

There are reasons why there are so many Transformer toys with the same name, by the way.... For example, in Beast Wars, several characters changed forms three times. Thus, three toys were made to match that. Some characters didn't change forms, but another toy was made anyway as part of a marketing thing... like Terrorsaur, who died at the end of the first season ( ) before the Transmetals came, but a Transmetal toy was made for him anyway. Another reason there are many toys with the same name is that if HASBRO, the company making these toys/cartoons doesn't reuse names they lose the rights to them. That's why there are 7 Megatrons, 7 Optimus Primes, 5 Galvatrons, 5 Starscreams, ect. out there in the Transformer world. Their names have to be reused in the toys and TV shows or the companies can't make any money off of them. .... One must also take into accounts that there are many alternate universes in the Transformer world too, not to mention 'bots who decide to name themselves after their ancestors and stuff like that.....

I'm somewhat aware of the Beast Wars timeline cause I've seen the first two seasons of the show.

G1 however is what I grew up with so I'm much more aware of that. Which is why I found this so interesting.
