Yeah he was, and very convincing. The perfect villain in some respects. Though you have to throw a bone to the Batman movies, it's a little far fetched. It tries to bridge the gap between comic books and reality, but in doing so it tries too hard to be realistic while at the same time has obvious holes that would never fly in realistic scenarios. For me, it's either stick to fantasy or stick to being realistic. Trying to merge the two seems to come off a little strange. Easily one of the best movies this year and well worth the neck breaking 3 hours, but nothing stands out to me like a moment of pure awe.

The Joker was probably the best comic psychopath I've seen in a movie - he was actually a, well, joker as well as mad as a sack of cats.

I think if they'd added a 'moment of pure awe' it'd have spoiled the atmosphere of the film, though. It's meant to be a crime thriller (literally) ala Heat, after all.

I agree with aldo. I also think it was quite well blended (if you're talking about fantasy and reality). The movie will be a lot less exciting if the maker decided to stick with either fantasy or reality. More so, the actors have absolutely played their parts well, Heath Ledger in particular, and brought story far 'beyond' alive :D

At the end of the day, I enjoyed the movie a lot, but the person I saw it with just said it was 'just ok'. I was a little surprised. I think this person must have some problem :P

The 'pencil bit' made the film, for me.
