Professional footballers are paid so much money because of the quality of entertainment they provide to so many people. Was it a billion people watched United Vs Arsenal a few weeks ago?ghhyrd wrote: I despise sports players, especially football (soccer) players. The only thing that comes close in ridiculousness to the amount they are payed is the ridiculousness of why. They are kicking a ball around a field for 90 minutes for gods' sake! Doctors and surgeons (Despite it still being a considerable amount, but most of them deserve it) are payed less for crying out loud!
But what is more important? Saving a life or the damage costs caused in riots because of football rivalries and entertainment. You name five people who live near you who can perform competent brain surgey and I will actually eat a hat. Doctors and surgeons are paid less than footballers because (I'm guessing) probably millions of people can do what they do to a similar standard. Nobody in the world can play football like, for example, Cristiano Ronaldo can. Furthermore, when a footballer plays, he entertains millions, even billions of people. A surgeon or Doctor can only save one or two people at a time.
Obviously a life being saved is preferable to a riot. Riots are rare these days in football anyway.ghhyrd wrote:But what is more important? Agree with this.Edit- But in the overall scale of things, one or two lives is not going to be help much, and they would be expendable. They would probably not do as much good for the world as the amount of money generated from such things as sports will do via strengthening of the economy. Thus is why we need social difference, poverty, war, diplomatic depression, inflation, crime... The world is like a muscle. It needs to suffer to become prosperous.
