*blows off forum dust*

Been watching The Ark lately. Really disliked it at first, but it has grown on me. It has a vibe of young adult science fiction, so don't expect anything groundbreaking. The science is atrocious, the plot holes are gargantuan, but something about it resonates that I like. It has that old school feeling to it, almost feels like it was made back in the late 90's. It reminds me of B5 Crusade at times simply because of the fact everyone is living on this ship on a long mission and it even has those fairly cheap looking sets (by modern standards) so you can't help but feel like it takes you back.

Give it a try :) It has a VERY rocky start before it gets more interesting.

OK so the acting is SUPER BAD. Sometimes you just wanna cringe. Just finished the first season and it was pretty painful to watch.

But is the story at least worth sticking with it for?

Not really. It was intriguing at first then it just went off the rails, it is so bad at times. I'm only watching it because it reminds me of old school sci-fi shows with the cheap cardboard sets and early 2000s CGI. The Orville is the only other show I can think of that evokes that feeling.

Yeah but The Orville was very good. I enjoyed it immensely.

I've started the second season and it's definitely a lot better than the first (so far). Some of the actors have settled into their roles, the scripts are getting more interesting and the episodic formula is very old school. There's something endearing about this show, even though it's kind of terrible at times. There's definitely a cheapness to it, but that makes it cute in a way. There's definitely some nods to Star Trek and maybe even Babylon 5 in there. But it had a very rocky start and the whole premise of the show is ludicrous.

Have guys tried watching For All Mankind? I had a great time watching the first two seasons.

Yup. It's one of my favorite shows. There are some things that bug me (that don't come to mind at the moment) but I'm keen to see how far the show progresses. The most recent season started to feel like a prequel to The Expanse, which is another fav show :)

I agree - it was excellent. Although I enjoyed the whole series, I liked the first two seasons the most. They felt like a believable take on alternate history, and the technology presented was much more grounded. I'm a Mad Men fan, so that probably added to my appreciation of the early setting :)

Don't get me wrong - seasons 3 and 4 are also great, but they were sometimes a bit too over-the-top for me lol :D I can’t wait to see how far the writers will take the story in season 5.

By the way, it's not sci-fi, but like For All Mankind, another Apple TV show I watched recently and can highly recommend is Masters of the Air. My wife and I watched an episode every evening and enjoyed every minute of it.

I quite enjoy over the top, since we don't get much 'hard scifi' anymore. That's why I liked The Ark. Even though the show is terrible in many ways, it's quite rare to get a spaceship show these days.

Right now I'm doing a steady re-watch of Star Trek Voyager. I'm actually quite enjoying the first season, it finally made me realize just how much the show changed in the later seasons - and not for the better. Rose-tinted glasses and all. ;)
