I think we need a defribrillator

But seriously, I would like to see FS2 survive a little longer at least. Or at least the SCP, I need it to still be alive by the time i get my new pc in July.

And what is Starlancer?

This is why it's a tradeoff. :)

In terms of mods perhaps but there's still plenty of work going on. Looking at the Highlight's page on HLP 13 out of 24 highlights are FS2 related (Mostly campaigns but I included things like the media VPs being updated).

And most of that was finished in 2007 alone.

Another problem is there isn't enough motivation and energy drive behind many of those projects. Some have been trickling along for years on end without an end in sight.

The thing is about the 'old school' projects is the fact that they were started before the HTL features etc were built into FS2, this means that where newer projects could start with HTL models, bump maps etc, the older projects found they either had to recreate a lot of content or release a campaign that looked 'amateur' compared to the more modern stuff. This means a lot of projects got caught in the loop of having to recreate stuff they'd already made, only higher detailed. The first time it's fun, after that it gets laborious.

23
I think that happens everytime there's a major SCP release.

It's almost ironic that the SCP has kept FS going far beyound what anyone expected but probably killed most of the original projects lol

Has anyone thought about Freespace 3?

Seriously now, we have SCP, someone could make it. It's not impossible, it would only take about 100 EXTREMELY GOOD modders and stuff like that.
Is this better?

The 'third' has been suggested many times, it is sort of a bone of contention among the fans for the simple fact that we never got an official '3'.

It was decided a long time ago that, whilst campaigns that are essentially a continuation of the story were perfectly acceptable, nobody would try to call it 3, I suppose it's sort of a gentleman's agreement that nobody would try to claim that theirs was 'definitive' in any way ;)

How many original models have been released in the last month or so?

How many original models do you really need?

Much as we don't like to admit it, all of us having mucked around with modelling or wanting new ships for our campaigns, none.
I find it a telling indicator of the drain of talent from the 'core'. It seems to me that those who can do this sort of thing no longer choose to invest their time in Freespace (and, no, TCs don't count precisely because they are TCs).
