WHen I was doing Karate, I was never happy with my physical condition thinking it was okay but not great. Then, a couple of years after I had given up, people were like "what ? you used to be in such good shape too!". Bugger, I'd say.
Having said that, I now realise exercise is a gradial thing and you'd be surprised how good a shape you can be in and not realise. Atleast, untill you stop and become a waster again.

I've been thinking of taking up Taekwondo again. I hear stories that all martial art forms are useless in a real fight, but... I challenge that.

If this fight doesn't include firearms...

It's true- Unless you are some kind of Grandmaster with it completely hard-wired into you martial arts are never really useful in a real fight-you just go with your instinct and forget it all.
I was going to learn Chu (or was it Chow?) -Gar Southern Praying Mantis but I never got round to it... I'll just stick with my current 'Incredible Hulk/Mr. T' fighting style for now

Still, a real fight yes - That's true. But if some idiot tries to take you on it helps a little. Not as a means of beating them up, but to have a quicker response/block/lock... Kind of like stopping someone in their tracks.

True, but I will just stick with throwing them for now

At least you're still pushing yourself; I have the exact same problem. I've managed to develop a rather severe case of laziness and apathy toward a lot of things, particularly relating to my schoolwork, and even encompassing activities which I really enjoy. There are days when I'd give just about anything for a nice dose of motivation, but it usually never seems to show up.

I go through those periods too. It especially strikes when it comes to exercise!
