extract anything starting with "beam" in mv_adveffects to effects

delet both said .vp files after this is done.

enjoy fs2 with the pretty animated glows/beams with no or little lag.

this is what i did, and i only have a 128 mb gfx card, a 2 gigaurtz proccessor, and 1 gb of ram.
Try 64 MB GFX card, 1.5 Gigahertz proccessor, and 256mb of ram, and we will se what you know of lag, Padawan.

BTW, that was appx meters to a friendly cruiser+
size craft. ONLY FRIENDLY! ravana? cool. HOL? fine.

Freespace modeling technobabble. Don't worry, I don't understand it either. Well, I do most of it. Typical modeller.... But don't be thrown by that spout of Greek if you want to learn the FS Arts

And by the way, before I can help...

PLEASE rephrase/resay/recite/retype this, I cannot decipher it :|

WOW i didn't realize what a bad grasp of my own language i sometimes have!

that should be: Another problem was, after extracting a "portion" of a mission from root2.vp, i can't open the mission in fred2. i just get normal fred2 start. how can i edit a mission from .vp?

Sorry apparently what i mean is i'm being dumb again and not trying everything. while posting this, i decided to try something (extracting the file to a directory, which i SWEAR didn't work before and then opening with fred), and lo and behoooooold, it worked!
so for that part, i apologize for, well, that part!

But i still don't understand what was read earlier about extracting, deleting VP's... does't the game, well, kinda need those
:?

Well Aken Bosch was saying that to stop huge laggies, you could extract the things you want from the Media VPs and then get rid of them...

.VP files are just like .zip or .rar archives, just not compressed. Aken Bosch said that you could just extract part of their contents and then nuke them.

But still, judging by the circumstances that you outlined earlier that might not solve your problem. Hmm....

The part about how the ag is brought on not just by going near large ships, but by going near your large ships or whatever you said.

If you're running the media VPs, that's pretty much what I'd expect from a laptop video card. Of the ships you've mentioned, only the one that's slowing down - the fenris - has a high poly (HTL) version in the media VPs.

Since most terran caps have been HTLed as opposed to vasudan or shivan ships, I can see why you'd get the impression that it was only friendly ships that caused a slowdown.
The fenris, aeolus, triton, deimos, orion and hecate have all been HTLed and are in the media VPs, as opposed to only the lucifer and moloch. (Ravana has been done, but isn't in media VPs yet)

So basically your problem is that the new ships are simply too demanding for your video card. Remember that though the FS2 engine is an old engine and so can still run well on the system specs it was designed for, the new content isn't designed for those same platforms.

Can you run games like HL2, doom 3 etc on your laptop? If not, you're probably not going to be able to run the media VP content too well either. :(

I can't on my PC, but have the ability to meditate while wading through lag.

Yeah, I don't get it . but word for word, here it goes:

whenever i get to within 1650 ish meters of GTVA ships of cruiser size or bigger, the game lags. I turned down the model detail :( which helped a lot, but still lags. THE SAME IS NOT TRUE FOR SHIVANS! do not mistake this. i can run all up on a sathanas and whoop on it with NO LAG.

but if i am close enough to look at a GTVA ship funny, i get punished :(
