How many people work on the site anyway? If it's just one person (like me) then it's understandable.

At a guess, Sarnie, Goob, Seketh, Skippy, and Fury are the techie guys with the others watching the boards, doing Project requests etc.
Certainly not a one man band, like here. Although SG is much better nowadays.

I always thought it was a mistake leaving gamespy. I know GS wasn't brilliant but they were in the most reliable and being in the network must have brought pleny of expousre from casual browsers.

As for the beam 'n' speech, does my head in when they go on about Carl the shivan when he's hardly on there anymore.

I say we start a 'Ban the Beam' campaign :)

Seriously though, I sometimes use the Welcome beam, followed simply by 'Welcome aboard, hope you enjoy it here' or words to that effect, I don't really have a problem with that as such, I think it's more the speech that annoys me.

The beam is fine. I occassionally use it. I've never bothered with the speech.

In fact only the newbies ever seem to bother with it.

Maybe we can convince Goob to change the welcome beam into a little note saying 'Pwned by NTF sabotage team'? ;)
Hmm.

"Rebel saboteurs on board the welcome beam temporarily shut down fire control to give the newbie a chance to escape."

I like it. :D

Yeah, I've been thinking about this for a while. One problem I see is that Fury decided we needed to overhaul the website and then got ticked off and quit when nobody else chipped in. HLP seems to be the sort of place where if you have an idea, you need to take it and run with it. We're not very good at running projects (any projects) without a clear leader setting the pace. I don't blame Fury; I don't think anybody realized it at the time.

Styxx used to be the main webguy, but he disappeared into a black hole with his master's degree. I do think it's possible to salvage the old HLP 3.0 if we cleaned it up and streamlined it a bit.

Question: When and how did Fury become the head admin?

when they moved off the gamespy servers and because he made the torrent or something that flopped miserably
