What annoys me is that the 'Next Gen' of HLPers are still going through that stage of irritating over-zealousness that means Taris and I are having to do more work in Gen Freespace.

They are, in a way, a needed breath of fresh air in the FS Genre, but they can also be hard work. It's odd to see things like 'The Freespace 2 Comic' in the art section and not recognising half the characters named, or at the very least, only seeing them recently.

Guess we just have to change with the times :)

Quite honestly, I dont hang around there too much because a lot of the next-genners try to come on a little strong. And to an extent I dont really care to meet new FSers... Cobra is enough.

I think I only ever posted once on there myself, to help sort out a Glide problem iirc. I think that, including the Admins, there's probably less than 25 of us left on there. Though Decker is actually an old poster who vanished for ages, but a lot of the newer members, I think, are people who are discovering FS2 for the first time. Which is why they are asking the same old questions and, on occasion, starting the same old flame wars as first time round.

I suppose I'm glad it's still attracting new people, and they are productive, some of them are very accomplished modellers, but the SCP is noticebly becoming less and less connected to FS2 with regards to the ships being produced for it.

I think it's now seen as a 'Space Sim game engine', which I think is what they were hoping for. People will just throw 2 uber ships into the battle for decoration and you'll end up flying around in your own Battle of Endor.

Since this is my general 'whine about n00bs' stage, I'll just say that even the standard Freespace 2 ships seem to be gaining guns at a frightening rate. I sometimes get concerned that we are going to see a lot of campaigns involving fireworks and little else of substance. I can understand the fun of making a big, impressive ship that looks deadly in game with weapon fire streaming out like an episode of BSG, it looks great. But FS2 itself wasn't about that, the Fenris is supposed to be a crap, out-of-date cruiser, not a fighter-massacre machine.

If people want to use things like that, I don't really have a problem, but I just have concerns that mission crafting will suffer for it.

I actually was on the VBB for about... 3 weeks. Before someone made a thread about wares. I was new to the internet at that time and asked what it was in the thread, but I got banned. :{

Didnt really go back. Found the VWBB and settled in there as a troll for a while.

On the subject of ships, as Flip says, its a disturbing trend to see fighters that have the armament to destroy a lilith in moments. Or an Orion (unless it's Trashman's orion) in minutes.
Also, Ive noticed that most people who try to "contribute" to the community are only making models. It used to be that modelling was the rarity, today it's FREDders that are rare...

Cant have a future without FREDders...

I don't mind the new people. I actually kinda enjoy it. To many places end up with a set amount of people that slowly wittle away.

It's just that the admins seem, well, lazy.

They have been very quiet of late, I think it started with Setekh getting engaged, and Sandwich is around a lot less than he used to be.

In their defence, Fury did mention that they are currently working out some kind of server deal in conjunction with Game Warden, because their current one was being unreliable. That may be why they haven't been around as much lately :)

Nope, theres about 5 active admins, about 5 active moderators in the main areas, the busiest Admin as far as forum activity goes is probably Goober or Sandwich, the busiest Mods are, at the moment, most likely Kara, Taristin and I. Though that's not a certainty, I don't go into some of the other forums all that often.

Admittedly, until quite recently, the Gen. Freespace needed very little moderation indeed. The Hard Light Discussion forums was where it all happened ;)
