Normally I think you ought to kill the smaller stuff first, precisely because it's small and you can stop it shooting at you quickly. This keeps them from adding to the damage you take as you engage the bigger things. The only reason to do otherwise is if the small stuff is so small as to be insignificant.
I have yet to have occasion to test this theory in EVE, but I'd think your mistake might have been not so much in being ill-equipped for the BS as in ignoring the cruisers...

Well, the problem is that cruisers can take a moderate amount of time to take down, with decent tanking. During that time you have Siege missiles and 200+ damage Railguns taking massive chunks out of your hull from the BS. Capacitors are limited so it's best to take out the really big b#stard while you still know you have plenty to spare.

NGT only says that because he's never been shot at by a BS

yea being shot at by a BS isn't fun. hmm do turret destabs work against NPCs?

Probably. And a Gist Seraphim uses 1400s or 1200s iirc, which have s### tracking to begin with.

I've never had a BC either.

It works well enough for me in a frigate against cruisers (particularly scary missile-armed ones).

actually if you orbit at close range in a frig, the guns wouldn't be able to track you and therefore wont hit you. Even the mjolnir torps would do like 10 or so to a frig because of the missile changes.

yea just thinking that as well. orbit at 1500m and drop rockets. i'd go kinetic because of the dmg bonus. also good against ore theives

ill gank out a kessie and see what i can get. want to train rockets to 3 so the numbers with thorn rockets should come tomrrow night since its 4hrs to l3. The best i've seen was about 103 or so for bloodclaws and that wasn't with BCUs and I didn't have warhead upgrades 3 at that time. My caracal hit 111.1 with 2x BCUs and cruiser 3 and warhead upgrades 0. so it should be comparable. Need to see what warhead upgrades would do to that

heres some prelim numbers gave these to hippo already
2005.09.16 00:51:33
combat Your Thorn Rocket I hits Serpentis
Sentinel, doing 39.2 damage.
2005.09.16 00:55:27
combat Your Bloodclaw Light Missile I hits
Serpentis Patroller, doing 122.9 damage.
2005.09.16 01:35:59
combat Your Scourge Heavy Missile I hits
Serpentis Drug Courier, doing 235.6
damage.
With unnamed T1 gear i get ROFs of 2.43 and 9.10 respectively so my DPS for the Rockets is ~16.13 and for Missiles its ~13.52. which isn't too bad x4. We'll see what happens when i get rocket & standard missile spec
for heavies i have a 13.65 refire with unnamed T1 i get 17.26 DPS, but i can hit out to 70km with a caracal.
