I do like big ships as long as they are not to big, maybe 12 k at the longest. Cause anything bigger would squish you when it jumps in and out

Destroyers can squish you when they jump in and out, WeatherOp.

Yeah, but you can get away from them. But, something that is 4k wide. No chance, you just a bug splat on the winshield :

A ship smaller than 12k can easily squish you:
"DIVE DIVE DIVE! Hit your Burners pilot!"

No i am talking about the ones over 15k that are probly 4k wide.

freespace2pilot: nah, this ship doesnt really do anything. in fact, you may never actualy see it, except in cutscenes and CBanims. and actually, its probably going to be more along the lines of 4km long, a much more reasonable size. plus, this ship was designed to replace earth. well, it originally wasnt, but they changed it after we lost sol. and if you ever even see it, it WILL be only as much as teh aquitane.
flipside: i dont mind if you close me topics, dont worry.
oh, and my ships like, go to an ABSOLUTE MAXIMUM of 8km, ever. period. anything bigger than that, unless there is a damn good reason why its that big, is out of the question.

And how do people put turrets on something over 12k long? It would have over 200 of em. I don't even know if the game supports that many.

well, why does a ship 2 km long have 1 turrets? is that realistic? no, yet its one of the most beloved ships in the game (orion).

What are you talking about?

THe orion, its 2.2 kilometres long and it only has 16 turrets, less than an Arcadia and less than a deimos.

Yeah, but if you think about it if it had 25 to 30 turrets it would destroy everything besides the juggernauts.

Well that's the point of a destroyer...

I suppose at some point, you have to accept that this is a game first and foremost.
Take, for example, cruisers in the US Navy, they have entire banks of AA batteries and missiles. Frankly, any Bomber trying to put a 50Lb bomb through the deck may as well take it's chances with a cheese-grater. The same goes for many larger incoming missiles, as long as the system is looking for them. And remember, Navy ships are a lot smaller than Freespace ones
If we carried on that assumption, then 'real' Freespace 2 attacks would be launched from beyond visual range and involve long range missiles. Bombers could do the same job but would still launch from about 20-30kms away.
Combat in Freespace 2 is not realistic, I certainly hope we've got something more dangerous than the 'slow yellow blob of doom' otherwise known as the Terran Turret when we get to that stage of things

But thats a fact. And they would not need the Hecate.

er, sorry

typo, i meant *16 turrets, not 1
flip: lol, theyd probably launch attacks from several star systems away, and juyst aim well. bombers would prolly reach across a system. and be half the size of a car!
