More that I've been here 2 years already and I'm probably going to stay at least a couple more until my Chinese is at least conversational. Given that the car will be around 20 years old by then there might not be any point in buying it back.

I doubt they'd sell it back if it was doing anything but sitting around.

Technically, there can't be any (selling/ buying/ reselling) transactions if you're never the owner of the car and the original owner is still the owner.

Me : As long as I can have it back when I get back from China.

Selling it is important cause it means that I can turn it over to my friend and get it in their name. I wouldn't want to be legally responsible for someone else driving my car. Think about it, any parking tickets etc would come back in my name but wouldn't be answered cause I'm not there!
