Who said anything about kinetic weaponry? With all the technology they keep babbling on about in the news (laser weapons, defense missiles, force fields) you'd think they would be able to come up with some form of protection. I mean, billions of dollars on a space station and one tiny piece of well placed debris could cause it's destruction.

Power/cooling concerns aside, a laser defense system would be a bit of a waste (assuming it takes them at least one year to set it up) as they're not going to let the ISS stay up there for much longer. :wink:
