Fixing Thread

Ok, new system and new monitor is all setup. So far so good, only I've noticed a weird thing with my screen. It appears some of my colours are off. For example, the grey borders on Sectorgame forums appear as dark red, and videos with grey colours also appear as dark red. Any suggestions?

Expect more questions as I encounter problems. I'm not only using Vista for the first time, but it's my first time using an operating system in another language.

I'd try a different monitor as it's an easy test and should rule it out as a possability.

Assuming you kept the old one/have one knocking about ?

Noticing a few dead (green) pixels in place of colours. Looks like one in the orange spectrum or something. Should I be sending this monitor back?

Edit: Changing the refresh rate to a lower setting seems to have helped.

As for the redness, turning the brightness up changes it to a more greyish colour. However, it's too hard on the eyes. I've checked the TV output and I cannot see any reddish colouring. Seems to be just VGA.

I've read that widescreen monitors aren't meant to be pushed too hard, and that lower refresh rates are perfectly fine. It's a 21" widescreen. I've put the resolution to the highest suitable for the monitor and the pixel problem has gone away. Using 60hz. AFAIK only CRT monitors are problematic when using lower refresh rates.

I got a dead pixel on this here Dell monitor a few weeks after I got it. I simply called them and they replaced it as soon as they could, and this one hasn't given me grief since.

Mind you this monitor came with some kind of premium pixel guarentee....
