Pet peeve time.

It seems, invariably, when I go to locate something-or-other I've seen of anime I've seen and liked, whether it be via a P2P program, torrents, or god-knows-what, it's impossible to find a dubbed version. Bad fansubbing abounds (jesus does it abound, I've never seen a fansub that gets the lyrics to the opening for Ghost in the Shell correct, for example. Incomprehensible considering the offical lyrics translation is available online.), even officially subtitled work(!), but you can never find an English dub. Never.

It's like some kind of horrible joke. The English speakers are obviously out there. It's where all this other crap is coming from. But none of them seemingly think to upload something in their own language.

Then steal the DVD!

I can't normally stand subs, I find it pointless and annoying to read subtitles AND watch the anime when I could be watching and listening instead.

Heh, there are some series where the orginal dub is best because if fits the characters better. Then again that could be because of be associating the orginal voices with the characters as being "correct". Like I watched through the whole series of "Love Hina" on a fansub. But when one of my friends bought the DVD and we tried to watch it with the english voices on it kinda hurt me to listen.. the voices didn't fit.
On the flip side, I love SITS, and when I went searching for Torrents, I searched for English dubbed, just because those voices are the best for me, and because there's so much action that I wouldn't want to be bothered to read things when events are happening. The TOrretns that i found were really good quality (bearily any grainyness to them, unless you enlarge them alot.)

There are a few sauces I know of for dual-audio releases, and you can sometimes find even more on streaming sites, but even though I have used them in the past, I generally do so with a general sense of guilt. As Geneon's recent production cessation shows, the domestic licensing industry isn't exactly in the best health it could be, and anime DVD profits have apparently decreased over the past year or so. There's a whole ton of debate as to how much widely-available fansubs/DVD rips are contributing to that, but I'm willing to bet they do so to at least some degree. Even though I will occasionally grab dual-audio releases (since I generally prefer watching anime dubbed), I take it upon myself to eventually buy the series I wind up liking if at all possible.

I tend to believe this is a reflection of the poverty of the art, rather than anything we've done. Because, honestly there is a poverty to it, as anyone who's seen the 5 million filler episodes of Naurto can tell.

I would opt to purchase it, and probably will eventually just so I can watch it on a real TV screen, but cannot afford to right now...or cannot period since I do not have that much hard cash on me at any one time and the credit card is being replaced.

Heh, I know the feeling; I still do my share of snagging things, dubbed or not (but a lot of that comes down to my refusal to buy something I haven't seen before more than my unwillingness to buy in the first place), and I have a rather long back-log of series I'd like to own. I haven't seen enough of Naruto to hit those fillers yet (and what I have seen makes me grit my teeth more often than jump for joy), but somehow, I doubt the huge mass of them will much affect the hordes of kiddies running around wearing those headbands, high-quality or no. (Besides that, I've heard rumors that Viz might wind up skipping ahead past the fillers to Shippuuden, to avoid that long slog.) As far as quality goes, though, Geneon does/did hold the licenses to some of the most solid titles out there; there were any number of reasons why they ran into trouble, not least of which may have been because they tended to charge the most for individual volumes.
