Gangsters are gangsters, and terrorists are terrorists. I don't buy this crap about honour among anyone - gangsters made peoples lives a misery in the 50s, and they do so today - they're just more amateurish about doing it these days. Likewise, the IRA simply chose a different way to instil terror (which conveniently for us allowed for warning calls) - they still terrorised people, they still sought political change through violent means. Islamic Extremists are no different - they simply don't bother with the warning call.

That said the IRA was more of a threat because they gained more experience with each operation. Suicide bombers tend to not come back for a second attempt.

Kinda of the same reason why an atheist cant' argue that if god really exists, then why doesn't' he strike me down where I stand kind of thing. God is the faith within himself, if you prove that he exists, then there is no faith (because he exists) therefore he doesn't' exist.

But seriously, there were entire warrior cultures with honor, and to be dishonored meant death in their eyes. Comparing the IRA to these sorts in terms of honor is like comparing a current Buddha and a paedophile.
