My laptop battery can now only last 40 minutes. Just over a month ago it could last 3 hours on normal windows tasks. Any ideas? Get a new one? Or petition for a free one from DELL?

Sounds like a recharging memory effect to me. Try getting a replacement. Or you could try setting it on fire and claiming it exploded

You can reset a (Dell) battery? Don't know much about them.

Under power options somewhere there should be a reset or recalibrate. It may be in BIOS too if its a dell system

Definitely not in power options. I wouldn't bet it being in the BIOS either, but I'll look.

A lot of newer batteries will only charge to 100% and then not charge again till they fall under 97-98% to protect against that

Nope - no reset options. The BIOS did say however "This battery can no longer sustain your system, please replace it"

That's Dell for ya. My printer has similar messages. Your ink is low. Please visit the DELL WEBSITE to obtain more. And guess what - The printer is custom built to receive Dell only cartridges. Good job I found a retailer who makes them

I think it was Dell who got into trouble a year or so a go with their printers asking asking for replacement cartridges well before it was actually needed.

Strange.

My mobile battery seems to have dramatically reduced in its lifetime as well.
Ridiculous these days.
Give me an infinite powersource damnit!
