Size matters

What are the biggest fan-made ships in freespace 2 and how big are they?

The largest ship in the engine is probably the Death Star from the Star Wars mod. There are a few real sized planets for backgrounds but as something you can actually interact with the Death Star wins it.

To be honest the general feeling in the community is not bigger is better. If you can't blow the ship up or affect it's fate in a significant way bigger and bigger ships amount to little more than a penis measuring contest.

It's a common mistake by new modellers to attempt to make a new Uber ship which could beat the Sathanas. What they fail to ask is why no one has done it much before them. The fact is that big ships tend to make for not very interesting missions unless the ship is designed around the story rather than the other way around.

You'd do well looking at Inferno if you like Big Ships, those things were something like 9km long and were the largest non-canon Shivan and GTVA ships that I know of, not that I play as many campaigns as I would like, admittedly :)

:o...Thank God you've come to your senses. I have to spend more than 50% of non-school time on this thing daily. :P

Come to think of it, though, it's been a little while since I've played FS myself. I really need to go investigate all of these zeta VPs and 7-10 patches and RCs and such.
A.K.A. Mongoose, for you HLP denizens
