Ok, let me first say that I do not wish to personally become part of concequnces of what I post herein, nor do I hold responsibility for the events described herein. Above all, I am not laying blame on any one person, or holding anyone at fault. Now...
Recent events have led me to belive that HLP is losing its patience with everything. The main instance is the recent action taken on Free Terran. We all know he has done some stupid things before, but bcause of this, people are jumping to conclusions about him. Some of you may have read his thread entitled '1000'. People jumped down on him because they looked at his postcount, and thougt it was meaningless spam. His thread might not have had much of a point, but there are a lot that don't. From seven minutes after he started the thread, people were all over him. Not one person that replied in that thread didn't flame him. People flamed him, even when the first word he said was sorry. Maeglamor came along and stopped the flaming, but even that wasn't enough. People started their own threads to flame him. And even our beloved Shrike faled to notice he was not talking about his postcount. Bad enough that he gets flamed, and apologised twice, but then having someone who is so mad that he did this, that they felt the need to create a thread to continue flaming.
I do not think that what Free Terran was the best idea, nor do I support him in dong so. But I do not support what people did to him. People jumped at him because they judged hm too early. What the pople who flamed did was wrong. What Shrike did was punishment, but it was a punishment for a different crime. He never spoke about his postcount. He never spoke bdly aout anyone, or spoke of himself as beter than someone else, but people spoke badly of him. He apologised, and nobody cared. He asked that the thread be closed, and it was, thereby ending his stupid idea, but someone elses stupid idea for a thead gets him reset.
I don't know if Free Terran has said anthing to Shrike, but even if he does, alone, nothing is likely to change... Not everyone here will support him, but I do.
He did something wrong, and adknowedged it. But then to be punished for somene elses opinon, in their own dumb idea, which is by far, worse.
If you don't care about what happened then don't bother to reply. But I am rethinking how people act on HLP. Compared to Free Terran, there are far stupider people. I am going to think twice bfore I start frequenting HLP again, unless something changes. There is no reason for things like these to happen, ad I a far from alone in my beleifs. If you disagree with what happened to Free Terran, say so. I know you are out there.

Well it is obvious that FT was talking about his own post count and by the time you reach 1000 posts you should know that things like that aren't appreciated on HLP. A small comment in the body of a post is sufficient.
On the other hand opening a new thread to continue complaining is equally bad and to be honest the person who did that also deserved to recieve whatever flaming or punishment FT did (and would have from me had the topic not been closed).
As for FT himself while he annoyed me when he first came onto the board he has turned into a productive member of HLP and as such I have no problem with him at all.
Lastly post count isn't really that important. You get a high post count by posting very often with short replies that often don't help much or by posting lots of spam. (or of course by just LIVING on the board). While it's nice to have a high post count I tend to judge a person by their actions on a board rather than their post count.

Entirely different Scenario - things can be done by project leaders in hosted forums that can't be done outside those forums - LM was/is Stu's baby, he was proud to see 1000 posts in its forum.FreeTerran wrote:That was not a thread about my 1000 posts but it was the 1000 thread in the SCP forum
EDIT: thats not ok from SHRIKE think at the hosted forum stuneap has opend a 1000 post thread in one too and has he get a reset count ??
Had inqusitor posted "The 1000th Thread" in the SCP forum and said something like "I'm so proud we've reached this milestone, shows the SCP has potential to be along standing productive oproject etc etc." that would have been different. But for a normal user to just post a thread that says that it is the 1000th thread, well, it's frowned upon. Different people get different tretment yes, but only when there's a reason for them to get this different treatment.

Free Terran, you can put up the poll if you want, but Hippo's opinions notwithstanding you will be flamed to Hell and back, assuming an admin doesn't lock it before anyone gets the chance.
Well, I didn;t see that one, but Third Twilight is IIRC Ten Of Twelves pet project and those two are good mater IRL, plus Stu is second in Command of TT. Again, special circumstances.

So we could run out of Bandwidth even earlier?Hunter wrote:Hopefully it'll explode into thousands and thousands of tiny pieces, scattering all over the cybernet. And on a slightly unrelated note, is anyone else having difficulty getting on HLP today?

It's a tricky subject, I joined the UT2003 board ages ago to reply to a single post, and suddenly got flamed for 're-opening an old post', and all I did was agree with the poster!
So I simply told them that if they were that unfriendly to new members they should shrivel up and vanish in a few months
I don't go there any more.
As for the thousand post thing, I've only been on HLP a few times, when I'd just started FS2 modding, and, apart from a few gems (Kazan being one of them strangely enough) most of them were like 'Well.... duhhh.. check the thread from 6 months ago, that'll tell you how to do it!' so I never really developed an affection for HLP, but I did notice a very curious habit of flaming on there, which is why the Volition Boards got shut down.
