It's pretty f**king obvious that FS2 didn't kill the genre. Let me put it this way. Could anyone make an FPS so bad that no one would make another FPS?
Could someone make a driving game so bad that everyone would stop making them?
Space sims were in a huge decline when FS2 came out already. The fact that sales of FS2 were poor may have meant that companies didn't bother trying to revive the genre but had the Wing Commander series managed to keep demand for space sims up the fact that one game sold poorly wouldn't have had any effect.
Lets face it. The WC people who blame FS2 are f**king idiots who can't see that it was poor sales of their own favourite game that killed off the series. If not why in the hell did its creators jump ship to make Starlancer?

I know. I was just supporting itMoonsword wrote:Drop the rants, people. Please. And Kara, please note that I just said basically the same damn thing earlier in this thread...

Personally I quite like WC myself too. I've played WC1 so many times on my Amiga that I even had the key list stuck to the wall in front of me at one point.

I'm more of a Privateer fan myself, but yeah. Hopefully Saga will shut up a few of the diehards on both sides.
You might be interested to know there's a Priv remake in progress over at the CIC, in fact, based on the VegaStrike engine (itself originally a WC remake).

Lo and behold! The greatest 2D Game ever!karajorma wrote:Everything has to be 3D these days. Even games that have no disernable benifit from it.
Personally I miss left-right and top down shooters.
Seriously. That game has one of the best stories ive seen to date. It beats FS1/FS2, half-life, Halo and a few others in every way. Its just that good.
Pity we cant run DOS games very well these days

*coughs*
http://dosbox.sourceforge.net is always worth a shot. It usually works, I can even get Priv and Armada working. They're very, very cranky most of the time, even sometimes under pure DOS.
Not that the sound's working perfectly, but sometimes you take what you can get.

Just as long as you don't try playing Guantlet Legends on it!
Apparently they worked out you'd need a 4-5GHz processor to get it to run and full speed

No TV? As in, not at the moment, or you don't own a TV at all?Raa wrote:I wanted an N64 emulator, and the Ocarina of TIme rom. Because I don't have a TV to hook up my n64 into...
P.S. I just picked up a used N64 and Ocarina of Time earlier this year. I can see why it's one of the most beloved games of all time.
