Honest opinion about lower middle class VPUs

I realize some of you read something similar to this over at HLP, but in matters such as these, there is no such thing too much information.

In a few short weeks I'm going to be getting a newer model video card to replace my aging GF4MX 420.

Now, what I want to know, minus any hype or BS, is whether I should get a

GeForce FX 5700 LE :
250 MHz (core clock)
1000 MTexels/s (fillrate)
128-bits
DDR
200 MHz (memory clock)
6.40 GB/s (memory bandwidth)

or a

Radeon 9600 :
325 MHz
1300 MTexels/s
128-bits
DDR
200 MHz
6.40 GB/s

This data was obtained from this chart, one of the most useful things since sliced bread.

What I need to know is how much the 9600's extra 75mhz improves it's real world performance. There is also a column call Trans on that chart, the 5700 rates higher in that column, what does it stand for?

Oh! I almost forgot, which one do you think I should get?

I'm using a 5600 with 256Mb DDR, and it runs like a dream, however, in this case, I'd recommend the 9600, the higher core speed will give your main CPU more freedom to do the other stuff :)

Important Specs:
Proc: Athlon XP 1800+
Memory: 256mb(ya, I know it's low. I had 384 but one of my modules died.)
This is my mobo.
Linksys NIC, the 100tx I think
ATI TV Wonder VE
and
Geforce 4 MX 420 PCI
on board sound

Technically I'm putting it in a AGP 4x slot, so if was designed specifically for 8x like the higher end FX card or the 9800 it would be a waste, becasue I couldn't make full use of the card's power. Someone on another board pointed out a refurbed 9600 Pro that's in my price range on Newegg, would that be a good deal(what with it being refurbished?)

it's arrival stemed from the fact that I don't have room for a tv and a computer monitor in my trailer. My total square-footage is about the same as the average dorm room with all the ammenities you would expect in an apartment crammed in it. I have 2 twin sized beds, a gas(don't use it though) stove, full shower/bath, a couch, a desk , refrigerator, ect. all crammed into a trailer that is 10ft wide and 32ft long. I'll post a pic sometime...

I have both of these cards, one in my downstairs and one in my upstars comp. I really cant notice a difference in performance of the 2. If you are strapped for $$$ get the GF. The primary reason being is that you can overclock relatively well it and its cheaper.

Here is my concern though....
YOU NEED TO GET A MOBO TO SUPPORT 8X BEFORE YOU EXPECT TO BE ABLE TO GET EXPECTED PERFORMANCE FROM YOU GRAPHICS CARD!

Here is the most I can overclock my safely without any problems (although I hesitate to run many games with it this overclocked)
