The poles are going to flip? .. Uh.. pun intended. But, I'll just put it on the list of along with the countless hundreds of other things the Earth is due to go through in the next couple of centuries (half of them end of the world type stuff).

LOL Thing is stuff like this is going on all the time. Our bodies are tough enough to withstand most of it. Even the pole flips won't do any long-term damage, except to the GPS system, but even that can be compentsated for.

The next Ice-Age is being over-doomed, we still have a good 10-15000 years, which is a long long time from a human standpoint.

Cometary collision... well, I believe I mentioned a 3D no friction snooker table 200km long in HLP ;)

Things aren't bad, but we would be fools to consider things stable. ;)

Edit : Oh, and if this thread gets too intense, feel free to close it, the original purpose was to point out that we are a special kind of creature that has earned it's place on Earth, and to say the those who believe in Evolution can be just as proud as any Creationist for their origins, not to start a Evolution/Creation argument ;)

That is the point of the whole thread I suppose, despite the fact that the Earth has bounced from one 'Environmental disaster' from our point of view, to the next. Despite that, here we are, the outcome of those which survived all of it, humans, cockroaches and all :)

Oh, and one interesting theory I found on Crocs etc, is that they have reached a 'roof' to their current abilities. That is as far as they can evolve without making a serious jump into a new niche, where they would have to contend against far more experienced members of that niche. That is why they tend to evolve sideways rather than up.

And one more thing about the "hypercanes", even tho I am a Creationist, I am looking at this from a scientific aspect. Even after the flood and all the climate changes that went along with it, hypercanes could not exsist. I would say that the "Cold" hurricanes from the Day After Tommorow has a 1 to 1,000,000,000 chace of exsiting conpared to hypercanes, cause cold core low pressure areas do exsist, tho not nearly as strong as the ones on the movie. Cause if the Hypercanes did reach wind speeds of 700 mph, what is stoping the jet strem form reaching a 1,000? And it would shred the hypercanes down to nothing.
The Only Thing faster than Lightning, is My Aim.

I'm pretty sure the team of meteoroligists who worked on the project thought of that at the time WeatherOp, these aren't people tinkering with an idea they had in the bath.

I'll try and find some info for you Moonsword :)

Let me put it this way WeatherOp, I'm not saying you are wrong, neither are those scientists, they are saying that certain conditions may have led to the formation of these things.

In the UK, we have a term called a 'Fishism' which is named after a Meteorologist. It's an interesting lesson on making definitive statements on what the Weather 'will' and 'will not' do ;)
