Wouldn't that make them sentinel installations or something?
I would probably add a pilotable gunship class. A ship roughly a quarter the size of a cruiser with some limited bomb capacity, 4-6 autoturrets, and immensely powerful shields. Basically you tuck one of these bad boys into a flight of bombers to provide running coverfire that won't be drawn away like fighters tend to be.
I thought we handled the whole "carrier" thing on HLP a couple of weeks ago. The Orion can carry and maintain I forget how many dozens of wings in it's fighter bay. If each wing consists of 4 craft that something on the order of 50-60. Which is about twice what a modern Nimitz class can carry and given that the Orion is 2 kilometers long, several hundred meters wide and almost a kilometer tall, it's not outside the realm of possibility. Also, unlike the Shivans who throw destroys at everything and have less in the way of smaller warships, the GTVA doesn't deploy their destroyers to a combat zone unless their immense firepower is badly needed. The have Corvettes, and were planning for Frigates, to become their frontline warships with destroyers becomeing the heavily armed "jump in, kill the bad guy, jump out" warships as we saw the Galatea in FS1.

that makes more sence. but the shivans really have had a long time to build up their fleets, so if you think about it, throwing away destroyers shouldnt be TAHT huge a deal...
ah what do i know?
and what we mean by 'carrier' is a dedicated ship, something thats realistic (not like the warlock. its cool, but not really possible...). it would have some anti-fighter stuff, maybe 1 or 2 anti-cap weapons, and the rest of the ship would be nothing but fighter-carrying stuff. this would be the kind of ship that cant defend it self very well, but it usualy sits far behind the front lines, throwing fighters at enemies and coordinating.
i want a battleship-class!
a totally self-sustaining ship, very big (4-5km long) and there is little or nothing you can do about it ever. its useless on the offensive, but defensivly, its EXTREMELY hard to kill. it like, never needs refueling, has all it needs to harvest and process raw materials, and maybe even some basic fighter-production systems.
i know its stupid and unrealistic, but that owuld be so cool!

I think Carriers are a must have. Gunships too. But the most important thing would be civilian vessels and stations, to add depth to the game.
We need way more space stations and instalations, cargo depots, shipyards, satelittes, space junk, and little green men too...
We need to add the Corporate side to space, like having civilian stations belonging to certain corporations.
A bounty hunter´s guild would be cool too.

My idea was to basically make it a bomber for all intents and purposes except that it has reduce payload and more shields and turrets(at least 4, preferably 6, maybe some flak or a couple of capital pulse turrets, terranMediumturrets(IIRC))
