General Problem (D3)

#1
When I try to join or host a server, the game instantly crashes and displays this.

I also get that message when trying to run the game using D3D.

[bunch of random HEX here]
Aside from the virtual memory and the fact that it shows a Norton .dll under the module section, I don't see anything strange.

Is this a common error?

Hard to say, it looks to me like something we could fix with the source, but sadly we don't have it. Has this problem suddenly cropped up? Or has it always done this? Which OS do you run? Which video card do you have? CPU? Memory?

This is only with D3, but I've known about it since I first played it, since I chose D3D before trying OpenGL.
Windows XP Pro w/SP2
Diablotek GeForce 7600GS (256MB GDDR3)
AMD Athlon 64 4000+ (2.4ghz, single core)
2GB (2x1GB) PC3200 DDR (both sticks are the same brand/make)
Everything is clocked at the standard rates.
Reinstalling is the easiest first choice. It's not painful to install D3.
I don't have an installer. :/

Your system is close to mine... Would it be a safe assumption that OpenGL doesn't work now?

Strange that it wouldn't work under SP... I can't think of why this may be the case either... How did you aquire this version of D3? Was it a MP only pack or..?

If it's a registry/install error (unlikely/hopefully), then I've found a fix. I'll let you know if it works (seven hours from now, at this rate).

I guess it was a registry/install error, however unlikely that was. Freshly installed and it appears to run fine.

:EDIT:

Just tested hosting a server (not basewars), and joining a server (basewars). It works. :D
