Interstellar object confirmed to be from another solar system

Astronomers are now certain that the mysterious object detected hurtling past our sun last month is indeed from another solar system. They have named it 1I/2017 U1(’Oumuamua) and believe it could be one of 10,000 others lurking undetected in our cosmic neighbourhood.

Damn you Guardian. I was hoping for a Shivan Juggernaut. But, that artist rendering... That's no asteroid!

I thought thats how it looked. Didn't even click that it was an artist's rendering - The space sector must hire lots of imaginative artists :)

Apparently that is the shape detected, though. But alas, it's no spaceship, because it's spinning and acting like a rock.

Can't an intergalactic space ship act like this?

Well, only if it's a ship like this one:

That's the SG:U ship right?

Yep! Obviously this was just a rock though, since it never went that close to the sun.

Or that's what it wants you to think.

I see this is picking up a trend in the news. We've had some wild theories including the possibility of an unmanned probe designed to slingshot around a target as part of a reconnaissance for a a larger craft, or an ancient alien ship that has lost all power drifting through the universe.

But it's probably still a rock. Not a natural shape, mind you...

Edit: Look at the trajectory of this thing:
Path-of-Oumuamua.jpg
The odds of a rock having that shape occur naturally, AND for it to make such a close pass to SOL's goldilocks zone and then to slingshot out?

Great Penguins of Paranoia! Along with that image it looks convincing enough it's a probe and who the fuk name that... sounds Alien

Another great theory I've spotted is that it could be a rock that has been specifically carved with a series of messages actually physically written on the surface (kind of like a giant stone tablet with some equations maybe) - so only a sufficiently advanced civilization could detect them.

No hope for us and I would say you perhaps have been watching Crusades too often :p

I've watched Crusade. Dunno about 'Crusades' tho. :)

Btw: I've transferred your books to my collection here in the UK.

I see your point. Crusade. :p

And now that I think of it, 'Racing the Night' was more alien writing and so I've dug up episodes from several sci-fi shows that add to this; 'A Day in the Strife' from Babylon 5 and Star Trek TNG 'Masks' - for all we know the dimensions within the comet could be greater than 3.

You have a collection outside your main residence?

Yes, my childhood home! It contains most of my original collection including DVDs and the like. I used to have a VHS collection, but destroyed them (while keeping the covers) to save on shelf space.
