AT&T were spending a phenomenal amount ($billions) of money upgrading their network hardware a few years back. Guess they balsed it up.

It's an ADSL line.

The only alternative I have is Comcast. So, I'm pretty much up s### creek at the moment.

Interesting development: I started reinstalling Guild Wars 2, and I have absolutely no connection issues during the downloading process. Note that before I started this process, I was getting the expected crappy service.

With 95% of my maximum downstream taken up, I am getting better speed and server response than when: streaming video from YouTube; playing multiplayer games; browsing the Internet; downloading stuff via Steam; or doing absolutely nothing.

Prediction: My connection will go down the crapper once I finish downloading the game.

Hypothesis: AT&T is throttling me down for practically everything and this is one of the exceptions.

*sigh*
