FS and FS2, no bug, just slow

So I reinstalled FS and FS2 on my new computer. Installation went fine, but once I get into the game it runs so incredibly slow its the next best thing to frozen. There are no errors, just so slow it takes a few minutes to get the mouse over the Barracks.
Any help is appreciated.

Please list computer specifications and the version of Freespace 2 that you are using.
That being said, you might have better luck at
HLP.

3 GHz AMD processor, 2GB of RAM, NVidia GeForce 8800 GTS. FS2 V 1.2.0

Sounds like a multi-core problem.
Did you set the program to run on one (and only one) core?

Side note: You might want to use FSO.
