Escort Missions?

#1
In some cases they are perfectly valid, but I often cannot help but wonder- why do most of our escort missions in FS1 and 2 exist? For example when guarding a perfectly healthy convoy of freighters to a jump node to leave the system, why are they using their engines?

Why can they not simply make a microjump inter-system to their destination instead of trekking for several thousand metres at a crawl of a speed, when they can get to their destination in milliseconds?

Well, jump drives need to charge, so I suppose they jump in further from the node and move towards it rather than jump in inside the node and sit there until their drives recharge.

Moving slowly is better than sitting still.

Warships take a minute or two to recharge, but freighters probably don't have as much power output or as powerful a jump drive hence requiring them several minutes to fully recharge for an intersystem jump.

The 2nd Knossos device interfered with the GVD Psamtik's subspace drive. The nodes probably do the same thing, but to a lesser degree.

I never knew you had to recharge a subspace drive. They should put these things in the game more often. I always wondered why the transports in capella couldn't have simply jumped to the node to jump out.

Well, it is stated in those missions where you're bombing the NTF fleet.
Ahh :eeeek:

Yeah, the reason I won't remember that will be due to that mission being a violent blur of bloodlust.

Actually, coming to think of it, I can't remember anything from mission 10 to the end, save the SOC missions.
