The behaviour of guns on capships largely shaped by it's table entry. If it is 'Big Ship' flag, it will choose large ships for preference etc. I can't remember all the tags, but I'll try to find the list once HLP is back. So, for what you have in mind, which is a sort of 'concentrate fire', you'd probably need to sexp commands direct to the turrets, particuarly if you wanted to make some kind of show of it ;)

Ah... Goob, I'm not sure you have Taylor's pilot code implimented. I just tried out your Oct 14th build after I had been using Taylor's Oct 7th build, and it couldn't find any of my pilots. I reverted back to Taylor's and it found them no problem. Also, is there a launcher command line flag to activate 3D warp universally, without having to extract every mission and change the flag? I tried it out with the -tbpwarpeffects launcher flag and found no noticable change.

Hmm, here's a thought for a possible ship flag (in mission, in the ships tbl, wouldn't really matter): 'no_flames', which would basicly mean that that particular ship wouldn't gout fire when hit. :)

It does look a little odd for water, land, asteroids and stuff that hasn't been thought of yet to be belching fire into space.
If you could stick that in, ground missions would suddenly loose another major issue and TI would be even more in your debt. :D
I would find the approximate place such a flag would need to trigger, but i just can't seem to find where the gouting fire code actually is. :\

Thanks, :)

That brings on a thought, what does the 'SHOW DAMAGE' flag do in the ships.tbl?

show damage doesn't do anything as far as i can tell.
case in point, the orion, the arcadia and the hecate from a cursory glance have $Show damage: set to NO, yet we all know that they gout fire when hit like everything else. ;)

i can't actually tell what the show damage tag does. it's on YES for all fighters, the asteroid, the but also for large ships up to deimos size, but not for the aforementioned ships and well, anything bigger.
Also, cargo containers and sentry guns are completely intermixed with yes and no's. :\

Might it be that in FS1 it was able to turn the fire/possibly sparks off, to save system resources (those things cut frameratesto about 25% at close range) but this was deemed unneccesary for FS2 which required a better hardware setup?
