Dev Documents: The Systems

#1
Each system will be laid out interactively, while making as much use of the available room as possible. In total there will be seven star systems (connected with scripted jumpgates), but infact there will be eight environments due to a special mission. Two of these systems will contain the destroyable player bases. Scenic stuff (rocks, debry) will be randomly placed in systems based on framerate performance of the system itself.

The centre system, which will separate the red and blue systems - Will have a varied selection of objects, including Maltu Orion Legion Fighters, Cruisers and a single heavy cruiser spawn (robots will spawn in various locations at various times). There will also be an asteroid belt with an infested asteroid base. This base is also known as a mission complex, and you’ll be able to enter solo or with team mates. Once inside, you’ll be locked in until the timer expires, or you complete the mission. No one else will able to get in and help at this point.

The adjoining systems will contain the Red and Blue bases. Each base will be scattered in a bubble formation, tightly placed as to not use too much space on the map. There will be no other scenery in these systems due to the polygon amount of the bases. There will however be Fighter pawns from the Maltu Orion Legion at the far edges. They will ignore the player bases entirely, however, and just sit there until approached.

The systems beyond are optional flying zones - the gates which lead in the OTHER direction. You can tell which direction this is, because the Maltu fighters at the edge of the player base systems will be closer to these stargates. They will be jammed with Maltu Orion Legion spawns including Frigates, Cruisers, Battleships and other nasty stuff. Some of the stuff will be present when you arrive, or appear while your there. Others may take a while depending on the difficulty of the NPC itself. System four will have a Maltu outpost, silo and defenses. System five will have an Abandoned Gemini Syndicate temple + Maltu spawns.

System number six will contain an Earth Alliance outpost and an Ancient stargate. There will be no Maltu guys here, but there will be Gemini Syndicate spawns. The Alliance outpost will be neutral to players and will also shoot down Gemini ships if they come into range. Shooting the Earth Alliance guys is not needed, since they’ll help you.

System seven and eight are both the same systems. One is the first you jump into, the second is the Mercenary Gauntlet which orbits a nearby planet. The gauntlet will only be accessible every cycle, which is about 10 minutes. The gauntlet is the hardest area of the game.

The systems have names too, just for the heck of it. The name of the system will appear on your HUD when entering it. They are like so:

Merena System – Contains an asteroid field and a Mercenary gate. “Blue” nebula theme.
Mercenary Base – Part of the Merena system, location of the Mercenary gauntlet.
Avereus System – Contains the Gemini outpost. “Gold” nebula theme.
Sharlendre System – Home of the Red Team. “Green” nebula theme.
Dacousa System – The gap between bases, contains an asteroid base. “Red” nebula theme.
Derem Prime – Home of the Blue team. “Red” nebula theme.
Jutra System – Contains a Maltu outpost. “Gold” nebula theme.
Rintadi System – Contains an Earth Alliance science outpost. “Special theme”.

Additional Explorable Areas:

Maltu Lab - A wrecked lab built into an Asteroid.
Gemini Temple - A place to relax.
Maltu Outpost - A spot to refuel.

Base Assets:

Command Tower - Starting point and armory.
Silo - Deployable platforms are generated here.
Repair Hanger - You can refuel and repair your shield here.

Um...we are talking about D3...right?

This map was designed a long time ago. I've marked off where the different levels take place. Doesn't really mean anything, just made it for fun and was going to use it as a reference in the single player mission. White lines are systems connected by jump-gates, whereas systems with no gate are only reachable by jump drive.
