Mission notes

According to the HOG file timestamp this level is from 1998.

I'm aware of six levels named LS (...something...).
IMHO, only two of them are worth playing, this is one (the other is LS COMMUNICATION CENTER). There are no credits in any of the MN2 files and there are no text files in annex.
Probably all these levels have the the same author but it's not possible to tell for sure.

LS should stand for Limefrost Spiral and the author's nick could be Diamond Cutter XS. 

This level (LS MINING COLONY) has design issues: missing textures, wrong hostage positioning, glitches (see the area near the blue key). 

Despite this, it is definitely an enjoyable D2 level, huge and intricate, fun to play, easy at low difficulty levels but quite challenging at ACE.

Played with D2X-rebirth (build Jan 2024).

SPOILER. 

Almost all bots are standard. 

A Gauss is released by the first Bulk Destroyer, another one is hidden. 

There is a hidden Earthshaker (another one is behind a force field at the beginning on the level but it seems unreachable). 

By means of an easy trick with Guided missiles we reach a panel that removes some grates to access hostages and power-ups. 

There is a Full Map just before the reactor, so we can go back and thoroughly explore the level. 

We can blow the reactor from distance, however engaging all the bots in that wide room is fun.

Despite an Afterburner provided near the end of the level, reaching the exit will not be easy: placing markers is convenient. The shortest path goes through a narrow passage.
