add-on Levels and missions
How to make an add-on level?
1. At 1:st thou need a level editor. www.descent2.com/tools has all thou need. If thou don't own Desc', try to find The Definitive Collection.
2. Descent Networks (descent2.com/ddn/specs) has good information but doesn't tell all.
3. If thou convert stage to Desc' 2 one by Mission builder and game's minimum installed, program shows memory error window. To make convertin' success, medium reinstall game to temp directory and move *.pigs to game's directoryand convert. When texture changes are done, delete PIGs to save disk space.
4. When savin' level in HOG, Builder may make a new rdl/rl2 and keep original un touched. That's why it's recommended to export and delete file. When changes are done, import edited one.
5. Ok. Thou've done a great stage, but why to leave that? Why not to add exit animation (Desc' 1) and briefing?
6. If thou use HAMM, left click rdl to highlide it. Then right click AND quick press up arrow and Enter to create sequence.
7. Play it and write down and fix bugs thou found. Play again to check if there are any bugs left.
8. Make sure that exit sequence is included into HOG. If not, make new one, play and check.
9. Write text file, zip files and send me.
10. Folowing errors may*/will^ appear when playin'!: (In pure DOS!)
a^. When thou play mission, where are customised enemies, it affects to EVERY stage where are those robots! To get 'em normal, reboot.
b^. In D1 stage, which has custom music, when thou die, it stops playing.
c*. When thou start it or when playin', an error text fills screen and game quits to DOS. That's because expanded memory manager has been loaded. Reboot without it. If it happens when play, reload game. Otherwise, it doesn't work.
d*. Mission just doesn't load and game crashes. Only solution is Reset button.
11. Stage 4's ending sequence doesn't stop. Instead ship shows like non textured wall. Reason is unknown. It may be 'cause it's not diaconal or has secret stage. If thou know better, send mail.
12. One more thing. Thou've made a secret stage and enter to stage, which has secret exit, but it doesn't start. Game jumps to secret! Don't worry. Make ending sequence to 1:st stage and all stages has it. D2 hasn't that problem. Secret stage 6 is then default.
Downloads:
If Desc' 2 pack has *rl2, not HOG, unzip/move it to game's root directory. All stages has single player (allways) and Co-op and Anarchy unless written otherwise in text file. I distribute other developer's also if they scratches followin' contitions: (Even if 1 stage breaks any, the full mission will be deleted and not distributed!)
Must:
1. Fit onto floppy when compressed. (zip/exe)
2. At least 10 robots in small one.
3. Reactor/Boss robot.
4. Reach exit in time.
5. Clear map (Not neccessary if Guide freeable.)
6. Get all keys without mitzi/algroove.
7. Mission name sound like HOG/rld/rl2.
8. Right to edit it to my personal use.
9. Fair combat against boss.
I may also delete if:
1. It's huge and slow.
2. Guide doesn't regonize keys/reactor/exit.
3. 'bots are in same form.
4. HOG hasn't plenty o' action and takes more than 200 kB.
5. Othervise heaty.
Recommended (not required):
1. Briefings.
2. Ending sequences.
3. Guide bot.
4. Single stages in rdl/rl2. (If not sequence, custom robots, music, texture etc...)
5. No *.rep/*.aut files
6. Maximum clear time 40 min. Boss fight not included.
May also have:
1. Multiplayer
2. Custom robots/texture/music/weapons/ship. (Be carefull with level desing! Don't give homin' Flash missiles to custom enemies!)
3. Secret stages
