About Descent Files

Over the years many Descent related websites have come and gone. Although the Descent brand is still very much alive, a great number of Descent websites have long since disappeared from the face of the Internet and I suspect many more will yet fall to the passing of time. My goal with Descent Files is to preserve the works of the many thousands of pilots that have played the games. From countless missions, useful tools, patches and many more assets, Descent Files is the one and only archive for everything in one place.

Descent Files is a clone copy of another project, FreeSpace Files, formerly FreeSpace 2 Sector.

Some updates have been applied to the backend. That should help with any bugs - apart from the new ones that might appear. A new search feature has been added to the menu that will allow you to search every folder. Again, possibly has bugs - I already had to fix one! If you find any problems just let me know by clicking the ? thing at the bottom.

And so Descent Files is finally online. Well, it didn't really take that long - I just never got around to it. It's basically a clone of FreeSpace Files with a few tweaks. There is no global user to upload files on this site. But you can register an account and upload anything you like to the site (providing it's Descent related and fits into the category). If you make a mistake by uploading to the wrong place, don't worry about it, I'll see it sooner or later. ONLY Descent related content, please! At the moment, the site is still missing a lot of stuff - I intend to fill this up soon. If you have something to contribute please upload it or let me know.

Usage Guide

  • To upload files, simply register an account and you'll be able to do just that.
  • Users cannot delete files, move files or create new folders.
  • You don't need to login to download files. You can download from anywhere including hotlinks.
  • Audio & video files will be streamed when clicked. Use right click to save them.
  • Use the small Windows-like icon to switch to gallery mode when viewing images.
  • Usage is unlimited. There are no restrictions, but only Descent related content is allowed.
  • Please use search friendly file names and folders. For example 'My Level.rar' rather than 'camsd3r.rar'
  • Please upload files to the correct folders. If unsure, upload to the 'Unsorted Uploads' folder - I will check it later.
  • There is no maximum file size, but if any single file exceeds 500MB we recommend using split archives.
  • Uploads are instant and subject to review at a later time.
  • Abuse of server resources is subject to moderation and possible bans.
