Shadow Genesis Tech Entry #04: Terran Capship Database

#1
GTC Aeolus
Image
Having long and impressive history GTC Aeolus is the lightest of 3 cruisers in today terran navy. Despite its firepower two times stronger than Leviathan’s, its role in the Alliance has changed across the years. Today Aeolus is basically an escort ship, it guards cities, colonies and space stations, it’s basic unit used for patrols and maintaining order. Numerous and various anti fighter turrets make it a perfect ship to encounter large groups of fighters and bombers.

Aeolus-class cruisers played a very important part in many battles and operations of the GTVA during the Second Great War. These were 3 units of this class – GTC Malta, GTC Templar and GTC Ertanax – that provided protection to the GTD Bastion before it cut off the jump node to Epsilon Pegasi during the Shivan invasion on Capella. GTC Vigilant that was the first unit that encountered new Rakshasa and Mara-class Shivan vessels was also Aeolus-class.

Armament:
7x Standard GTVA Flak Cannon
1x GTW-88 Disruptor Beam Cannon
2x Anti-Fighter Beam
2x Plasma Beam Cannon Type. I - Small

GTC Phoebe
Image
Phoebe is the first of the new generation of Alliance cruisers designed and constructed as a part of a post-Capellan government armament program and the first unit specialised in firing at long range. This cruiser is equipped with very effective batteries of long range torpedoes LRT that are its primary weapon. The torpedoes are also useful in short-range fire and its armour, good anti-fighter defence and additional beam cannon make this ship capable to successfully fight on the first line alongside Atreus assault cruisers. Phoebes are a constant element of modern Alliance navy and their main task is to support assault units.

Armament:
2x Rapid-fire Pulse Cannon
2x Standard GTVA Flak Cannon
2x Anti-Fighter Beam
3x Terran Defensive Turret Type.II
1x Plasma Beam Cannon Type. I - Small
4x Battlehammer Long Range Torpedo

GTC Atreus
Image
Atreus is our final and ultimate response for Shivan assault cruisers. It is a dream of every commander who values heavy armour and large firepower. Atreus was fleetly constructed after the Second Great War to replace old and ineffective Leviathan-class cruisers. Two destructive forward beam cannons with power twice larger than Aeolus’ ones are why Atreus should be avoided by any hostile cruiser or corvette-size warship. It is present in each GTVA fleet and has became the base of every major offensive operation.

Armament:
3x Zanithe TPC Type. III - Anti Bomber Turret
3x Rapid-fire Pulse Cannon

GTCv Deimos
Image
Deimos-class corvettes are primary warships of the Alliance navy. Fast, versatile, with enough firepower to encounter enemy cruiser-size vessels. These units are adapted to stand-alone operations in both friendly and hostile space. They are equipped with 4 slash-type beam cannons and powerful anti-bomber defence. Lots of Deimos-class corvettes in the GTVA navy have been considerably modified. Two most common versions are front beams’ upgrade and a small fighterbay enabling it to carry small groups of fighters and bombers.

Armament:
4x Zanithe TPC Type. III - Anti Bomber Turret
6x Standard GTVA Flak Cannon
4x Anti-Fighter Beam
6x Terran Defensive Turret Type.II

GTCv Eurynome
Image
After many years of Deimos corvettes’ service in the Allied navy technicians from joint Triton Dynamics and Mesa Corporation team created a scheme of a new assault unit capable of dealing with hostiles larger than itself. GTCv Eurynome heavy assault corvette that was designed with putting emphasis on armour and firepower. Eurynome is a response to a threat from Shivan cruisers, corvettes and destroyers. Its powerful beam cannons can easily destroy even very heavily armoured targets. The corvette has got a little fighterbay with capacity of 6 fighters. GTCv Lateralus and GTCv Endymion from Delta Majoris’ 9th Battlegroup are examples of Eurynome-class corvettes in the 6th Terran Fleet.

Armament:

GTFg Atlas
Image
Atlas artillery frigate is a mainstay of a new GTVA tactics that creates new standards of space combat. Created by designers of GTCv Deimos and GTD Hecate as a development of the GTC Phoebe project, its role in assaults against enemy capital ships is absolutely necessary. Main task of this frigates is suppressing the enemy with heavy artillery fire from safe distance, either as a support for assault forces or during stand-alone raids. Atlas turned out to be such a successful project that a few units of this class quickly appeared in most GTVA fleets. They are usually formed in assault batteries with 3 units each.

Differently from most GTVA warships, Atlas’ primary weapons are 6 powerful tactical plasma cannons with effective fire range 12500m what allows Atlas to attack enemy ships without being vulnerable to a counterattack with beam cannons. TPC does average damage to armour and serious damage to the critical points and turrets. Effective beam fire range is no further than 5-6 kilometres, then the plasma scatters and does only minor damage. Taking this into account, GTVA engineers constructed TPC and after they realised their project is a success, new weapon was installed not only on Atlas, but also on Anchorage superdestroyers and last Orions in GTVA regular service. Vasudan Atlas equivalent, differently than it, is armed with large amount of missile launchers. TPCs don’t need much space aboard the ship and have less energy usage than beam cannons. Atlas is also equipped with numerous anti-bomber weaponry and powerful jump drive, so it can act alone, without fighter cover.

Armament:
2x Zanithe TPC Type. I – Heavy/Long Range
4x Zanithe TPC Type. II – Medium/Long Range
7x Standard GTVA Flak Cannon
4x Terran Defensive Turret Type.II
5x Anti-Fighter Beam
3x Anti-Bomber Heavy Beam
8x Rapid-fire Pulse Cannon – Single Type
2x GTVA Gattling Turret

GTCa Farael
Image
Farael was created as a minimised version of the GTCa Magnus that serves as a primary GTVA carrier. Fast and manoeuvrable, capable of instant leaving the battlefield in case of trouble. Its fighterbay carries up to 30 units. Like Magnus, main weapon of Farael is its fighters and bombers and seldom does the carrier itself take part in combat. For this reason it is not equipped in heavy weapon or armour. Thank to numerous defensive turrets it is however capable of effective repelling enemy fighter and bomber attacks.

Armament:
6x Standard GTVA Flak Cannon
13x Terran Defensive Turret Type.II
4x GTW-88 Disruptor Beam Cannon
5x Anti-Fighter Beam
3x Anti-Bomber Heavy Beam
3x GTVA Gattling Turret
4x Zanithe TPC Type. III - Anti Bomber Turret

GTCa Magnus
Image
After the Second Great War military theorists and practisers came to common conclusions that doing necessary development and improvements of the Alliance navy, it shouldn’t be forgotten that our greatest advantage over the Shivans during the war in Capella, Gamma Draconis and the Nebula were fighters and bombers that considerably exceeded the Shivans with tactics and pilot skills. For that reason, they saw the need to create a new capital ship class that would carry large amounts of fighters and bombers, but differently than destroyers, they would operate far away from the field of battle. The first attempt to put similar concept into effect was GTD Hecate. Its direct successor, constructed and accepted for regular service 10 years after the Second Great War, was GTCa Magnus.

Magnus has been specialised in two tasks. The primary task is certainly providing fighter and bomber support for allied units in all system. Apart from that, if necessary Magnus is able to take part directly in battle. It is equipped in armour quite light for his size but durable enough to endure enemy cruiser or bomber strikes. Its primary weapons are long range tactical plasma cannons TPC and Geodess missile launchers, so it can provide support to the destroyers from safe distance, and powerful jump drive enables it to get out of the battle in case of trouble.

Magnus carriers as well as their Vasudan equivalents GVCa Neferka are the only capital ships in the GTVA navy capable of carrying ultra heavy tactical bombers GTTB Euryale and GVTB Anedjib. They are costly units, so they serve only in systems of strategic significance and no more than 2 per fleet. Fighterbay capacity of these giants is 280 fighter and bombers (including 12 Euryales).

The Wolf’s Fleet has 2 Magnus-class carriers – the GTCa Severian of the 9th Battlegroup and the GTCa Rhiannon of the 3rd Battlegroup.

GTD Orion
Image
Orion-class destroyers are the most known and experienced in combat capital ship class. Aboard this destroyers, designed 50 years ago as a main force of our navy, Terrans were dealing with Vasudans, NTF rebels and two Shivan armadas. The Orions became an essential part of Terran history, took part in countless battles, repelled numerous enemy attacks, but also suffering heavy losses. For the last decades the construction was considerably modified. In the time of the Great War Orions were carriers and command ships. During the NTF rebellion they played a totally different part. Armed with heavy beam cannons, they became a primary Terran assault unit. After the second Shivan incursion all Orion-class destroyers dated back to the Great War and Reconstruction time were retired and ordered to be knocked down or redesignated to serve as installations or bases for security forces. Soon the Actaeon Shipyards orbiting around Garden Prime in Delta Seprentis, where Orions had been being constructed since the Great War, were close. 3 last destroyers of this class left shipyards in 2370, just before their shutdown. Those units caused a lot of controversies for they represented retired ship class, but however they were fully operational and able to perform standard roles in the GTVA navy. Finally they were accepted and are planned do serve in the navy for at least 30 years.

Orions remaining in active service resemble Great War-era units only with their appearance. Number of defensive turrets was doubled, armour was upgraded and old ineffective GTW-AC-12 turrets were replaced with TPCs. Number of beams was reduced by 50% and remaining ones have now less calibre but better efficiency and longer fire range. Primary weapons of today Orions are TPCs based on highly-energetic plasma concentration. They are complemented with 8 LRT missile launchers. This modifications made Orion an artillery and support unit and it performs perfectly in it new role.

Armament:

2x Plasma Slash Beam Cannon Type. II - Medium
10x Zanithe TPC Type. II – Medium/Long Range
2x GTW-88 Disruptor Beam Cannon
1x Anti-Bomber Heavy Beam
6x Anti-Fighter Beam
11x Terran Defensive Turret Type.II
8x Battlehammer Long Range Torpedo

GTD Hecate
Image
Hecate was designed as a successor of Orion-class destroyers and the first units became operational shortly before the Second Great War. It has heavy armour comparable with Orion’s and powerful anti-bomber defence. Its anti-warship firepower is weaker than its precursor, but it compensate this disadvantage with its cavernous fighterbay so it can provide fighter and bomber support to allied units in entire system.

After the Second Great War Hecate were modified. Beam cannons placement was changed, backward slashing beam removed and two side beams added, so that it is possible to fire at enemies attacking from different directions, making the destroyer a perfect defensive unit. Nevertheless, main Hecate advantages, large fighterbay and good AF and AB defence, was kept. Hecate remains in regular service, but it is slowly being replaced by new constructions – GTD Nephelai takes its task of versatile multi-role battleship, while GTCa Magnus became main GTVA carrier.

Armament:
3x Heavy GTVA Flak Cannon
2x Long-Range GTVA Flak Cannon
10x Standard GTVA Flak Cannon
5x Terran Defensive Turret Type.II
2x Plasma Beam Cannon Type. III - Heavy
5x Plasma Slash Beam Cannon Type. II - Medium
4x Anti-Bomber Heavy Beam
4x Anti-Fighter Beam

GTD Nephelai
Image
Slender and subtle shape of Nephelai-class destroyers gives this warship lots of finesse and is one of the most unique and characteristic units in the new GTVA navy. First time constructed in 2378, it has quickly became common unit in the Alliance. Nephelai is an innovative project of Mesa Corporation teams that spent long months working on ultra-modern design based on newest technical solutions. They used their experienced from creation of Deimos-class corvettes. Nephelai is based on modified planes of new corvette class and Deimos successor, whose project’s potential turned out to be much bigger than initially considered. Two large fighterbays were added as well as characteristic powerful long range sensor, called ‘fin’ by the pilots, and all design was rescaled.

This over 2500-metre-long behemoth is armed with 7 heavy beam cannons placed on the sides and 4 Geodess 1 missile launchers. Differently than the GTD Preliator, Nephelai is majored in short-range fire and side combat. It is a perfect defensive unit with speciality of jump node blockades alongside RBC Mjornir cannons. The destroyer also has better anti-bomber defence than the Preliator and even than Hecate that is known of it. Rebels from Cerberus Legacy know and avoid Nephelai-class destroyers since GTD Resdayn of the Ross 128 18th Battlegroup crushed an important rebel installation near Barnard’s Star and defeated large enemy task force.

Armament:

GTD Preliator
Image
Preliator-class destroyers have long history that dates back to secret NTF shipyards and laboratories in Polaris. During the civil war the NTF Iceni was built there. The second unit that was planned was entitled the ‘Boreas project’. Massive, almost 3-kilometre-long destroyer armed with 10 heavy beam cannons, was intended to be a flagship of admiral Christopher Sarno, one of the closest Bosch companions and his right hand. Boreas, was to be fear for every Alliance unit including destroyers, except for the Colossus. The project as well as the prototype under construction in Liberty Shipyards, was captured by the GTVA. The plans were almost perfect and did not require major changes, apart from armour upgrade. The ship was soon transported to Beta Aquile and then construction was finished. The new destroyer was christened the GTD Preliator and became the first of the new class of GTVA capital ships. They are heavier than any of the Alliance warships except for the Anchorage and they replaced the Hecates as the flagships of the fleets.

Ultra heavy armed unit and the ironfist of the Alliance capable of crushing the Shivan destroyers and entire battlegroups. For its strength it paid with weak manoeuvrability and speed. Fighterbay is small and carries up to 55 spacecrafts. Preliator is often called the Flying Fortress, with 25 turrets and 10 beam cannons, including a giant forward beam and two additional heavy ones. Concentrated fire of all 3 beams can eliminate each vessel of destroyer-size of smaller with just a few shots. Although it is a ship of the Second Great War generation, its destructive power does not act worse than newer units’ one, it acts even better.

Armament:
1x Plasma Beam Cannon Type. IV – Very Heavy/Long Range
2x Plasma Beam Cannon Type. III - Heavy
7x Plasma Slash Beam Cannon Type. II - Medium
4x Rapid-fire Pulse Cannon

GTSD Anchorage
Image
Anchorage is a result of a few years of joined efforts of engineers and specialists from the most reputable GTVA corporations. This costly experimental project was financed as a part of the huge government spacecraft construction program. Its goal was to create a warship capable of encountering and repelling any Shivan attack on Terran-Vasudan systems. And the goal has been achieved. The first Anchorage-class superdestroyer was being built in the Liberty Shipyards in Polaris in years 2376-2379 and became the most powerful argument of the Alliance in any future conflict. Nowadays, it is the biggest and the strongest warship in the GTVA navy. Designed to fight Shivan Sathanas-class juggernauts, it can easily eliminate any hostile vessel.

Standard anti-caps weaponry of the Anchorage are 8 long-range tactical plasma cannons to destroy enemy critical points (such as beam cannons) from safe distance and 11 beam cannons: 4 slash-type cannons, 6 big green beams and the main cannon – Huge Energy Green Beam, the most powerful weapon in the GTVA arsenal. HEGreen consists of 2 subbeams: electromagnetic pulse (EMP) and beam cannon of large power and plasma concentration. It is able to destroy an enemy capital ship with only one shot. The main disadvantage of HEGreen is very high energy consumption. Anchorage has got two powerful reactors of type AR-02b that provide energy to this cannon as well as other systems of the ship.

Anchorage is equipped with a large fighterbay with capacity of 235 spacecrafts. Only the best and most skilled pilots can be honoured to station on Anchorage-class superdestroyer. Anti-bomber protection is provided by 36 turrets, flaks and AAAfs.

For now, there are 7 Anchorage-class units in the GTVA navy, one of which – GTSD Merdarion – is a part of the Wolf’s Fleet as its flagship.

1x Experimental Fusion Beam Cannon
6x Plasma Beam Cannon Type. III – Heavy
4x Plasma Slash Beam Cannon Type. II – Medium
2x Rapid-fire Pulse Cannon
4x Rapid-fire Pulse Cannon – Single Type
6x Anti-Bomber Heavy Beam
6x Anti-Fighter Beam
8x Zanithe TPC Type. II – Medium/Long Range
9x Standard GTVA Flak Cannon
7x Terran Defensive Turret Type.II

Oh good, so you are saying that the first part alone is 40 missions and there are more parts after that? If this is true, that's good. Or maybe all parts put together are only 40 missions and instead of releasing it all at once like I thought the plan was since you completed 30 or more missions so far, you will release only a small part at once? I'm guessing that latter is true since the former sounds too good to be true. Assuming the latter is true, why not just take more time and release the 40 missions all at once instead of releasing 10 or 15 mission parts and making us want more but having to wait for the other parts?

Well, the first chapter is 39 missions long and it will be released as one campaign, it is almost finished. Now I'm working on checkpoint system, variables and mission polishing and balancing. Testing will begin soon :).

The next chapters will be probably a bit shorter, about 20-30 missions, but their release is a matter of even a few years and we're not sure we'll have time and patience to do it :). Now we are determined to finish and release Shadow Genesis I and after that we'll consider making another parts ;).
Hmm, I'm kinda missing the Tereus and the Icelus... or will they be kept for a later release?
Tereus and Icelus are not regular GTVA units. They both play a special part in our campaign and have their unique history but now we cannot release any details about them.
Is the Anchorage a textured version of an unfinished model I released years ago? Because it looks like it, and if so I heartily approve.
Yes, it is your model. You'll be glad of how it works and what it can do in our campaign :).

Keep up the good work, but try not to take too long on part 2 and 3. But I understand it must be difficult and real life may slow down things and taking longer if it means improving quality. You seem to have progressed much quicker than pretty much all other campaign teams. BP being 2nd place in overall speed, I think. As Darth Vader says: Impressive, most impressive.
