About our little site:

Freespace 2 Sector was launched in May of 2000. That makes the site now seven years old. We have seen four major redesigns, and have jumped from host-to-host a lot over the years. F2S has been stable for three years now, but despite that, it's also been left unattended for those last three years - The site itself hasn't been updated much since 2004. With the fourth redesign coming along (June 2007), F2S is now back in active service within the community. F2S has always been an advertisement-free community, with no banners at all from our hosts. But while F2S and Sectorgame is a long lasting community, it's also one of the most rusted by time. We've suffered through server problems, scam hosts, backup losses, dust storms and one time the entire website was lost to a failed hard drive. The entire site was built up again from scratch - Even to this day, I've been unable to find the willpower to rebuild the site the way it once was.

Today, I run this website mostly by myself - Although I am now hiring some news-folks to gather community news and post it up on the homepage. Although F2S has always been rich with downloadable content, our main focus now is on community projects and supporting them as much as possible. Despite it's age, F2S still holds the largest database of downloads available anywhere for Freespace 2. And although many of those downloads are now obsolete with the introduction of the SCP, much like this website, they are a testament to the many steps that came before the enhanced projects of today.

F2S itself could be considered a retired website, but we still have a semi-active community and a handful of projects in development. With the 2007 redesign, and with more space and bandwidth than ever before, maybe we still can be the prime source for downloading. I'd like to say thank you to everyone who I used to interact with on a daily basis at the VBB. Being involved in the community during its early days holds a special place in my memory.

Regards,
Hunter aka Hunt Smacker

Help, I downloaded a file and can't open it!

Firstly, check to see if you downloaded it fully - All file sizes should match those on the page. Secondly, make sure you have the appropiate program to open the compression package - That includes both Winzip and Winrar which can be found on Google. If you still cannot fix your problems, contact me.

How can I send you a MOD or file?

Please visit the download section. There is a upload button on each page for sending files.

What is Sectorgame?

Sectorgame is a small gaming community that I decided to setup following the success of sites Freespace 2 Sector, Red Faction Sector and nTrap Sector. Red Faction Sector later moved over to 3DAP, nTrap was then discontinued. Today on Sectorgame remains websites for Freespace 2, Descent 3 and EVE-Online.

Do you provide hosting?

Yes, we do. Please check this page.

History in Pictures:

The first Freespace 2 Sector - Launched in May 2000.

Had two versions, one with nice green graphics and the other just text based. Had a lot more content than the versions of the site that followed, but ofcourse a smaller download selection. Freespace 2 Sector was born in May 2000, but I'd already had a website up at this point - for my campaign, a Time to Stand, which I was working on at the time.

The second F2S - Launched in January 2001.

At least I think it was January. This was the second version of the site, and also the most popular. Traffic was pretty high during this time, and our forums were starting to pick-up. There wasn't anything special.. just lots of content, with the first "Wiki" in the community for ships and weapons in Freespace - no longer exists sadly.

The third, launched sometime in 2003.

Thought to be the last version of Freespace 2 Sector, launched in a hurry to replace a site I was working on - This version is actually a different one to what I had in mind, but everything was lost due to hard drive problems... so, everything had to be built from scratch.

F2S Version 4.0 is powered by several gerbils, some rabbits and one human.
